Andis Curved Edge Professional Heat Flat Iron
This is a great tool. I don't know if the more expensive professional tools offer more protection for your hair, but so far I love this product. My hair is average thickness and length (just past shoulders), slightly wavy/frizzy, and very obstinate. I used it yesterday to curl my hair and I found it really easy to use. The varying heat settings made it easy to set it hot enough to really hold the curl for a good, long time without a ton of product. I used it today to straighten my hair, and it straightened quickly and easily on a lower setting, leaving my hair straight, soft, and shiny. The only drawback is that you have to be careful when curling or flipping because the rounded edges make it really easy to accidentally touch the plates to your fingers or head. With a little practice, I think this should be fairly easy to overcome. Great product!
The only down side is that because the blades are curved, the edges can burn the surface that you set it down on. Unfortunately I was doing my daughters hair at the kitchen table the first time I used this and there are now two burn marks on my table. Now I just place a hot pad under it and there is no issue.

I really wanted to like this flat iron. The swivel cord worked well, the plates were rounded nicely, the buttons weren't in an awkward spot or anything. But there were a couple of major problems.First, it claimed to heat up in 30 seconds and then the light would stop blinking to indicate that it was hot. The light on mine never stopped blinking, not even after about 20 minutes.
Second, I don't think mine was ever able to fully heat up (maybe why the light never turned off?) because it just didn't work on my hair. I was able to touch my fingers briefly to the plates without burning myself, even though it was turned all the way up, so I think it just wasn't hot enough to work... which is kind of the point of a flat iron and sort of negates all of the good features... so I returned it. It's possible mine was just defective... or maybe it's just not a good product. I have fine hair it shouldn't have been that hard to straighten and/or curl it.
On a positive note, I had no problems returning it or getting my money back quickly, which can sometimes be an issue with Amazon. Still, I'd go with another. I think this flat iron is a case of you-get-what-you-pay-for.
Since then, my boyfriend bought me the HSI Ceramic Tourmaline Ionic Flat Iron for Christmas because it had the best reviews. It's $50, but I've been really pleased with it. I suggest that one over the Andis.

* There will be enough product left over for a 2nd application (2-3 days later), however, you are better off not being frugal with the product, and making sure you completely saturate the hair with the product so that it will process adequately.
* Part the hair as directed, and use nice small/thin sections to ensure saturation of the hair sections with the product.
* Work fast (because the last section of hair is when your processing time begins), but it's more important to take the time to adequately saturate the hair.
* Take the strand test seriously it IS the right indication that the processing is or isn't done.
* Expect that you will use the maximum time for processing. We left the product on for at least 2-3 times the suggested length of time.
* Give yourself adequate time to get through this process it took us 4 hrs the first time, 3 hours the 2nd time.

I bought this because it was on sale at target, and it donated a portion of its profits to breast cancer research. However, now I really want to return it because it just doesn't do its job very well. I bought it as a replacement for my Conair, but my Conair still has a better design.Cons:
When I turn the heat dial past 20 (because my hair just doesn't straighten on anything lower) the handle part gets uncomfortably hot. If it's past 25, it's already too hot to touch.
When I clamp down on my hair with my hand, the straightener nips the skin of my palm and it hurts, so I have to hold it with my fingers only. But, because of that I can't use much strength to clamp. It's rather inconvenient.
Sometimes strands of my hair get stuck between the ceramic plate and the plastic as I straighten... it hurts.
It says that the ceramic plate has some kind of oil that acts as a protectant and it will come over after using the straightener a few times. It also said that it will create some kind of smell while the oil is still on there as you straighten. So when I tried straightening, I smelled that oil alright IT STINKS. I really didn't like that smell.

I selected this item because of the indication on the packaging that it was for "damage prone hair." Now -I don't expect a flat iron to be GOOD for my hair, but I did expect this one to be gentle. No dice. It does okay high up on the hair (close to the scalp) but for some reason, as I move down the hair toward the ends it pulls and snags my hair, leaving the ends frizzy (not sleek, like the package promised). The plates touch at the tip but you have to apply quite a bit of pressure to the handle to get them to touch closer to the handle, so it may just be a poor design that requires too firm a grasp to get the plates to contact.I do like the 1 inch width more than the 1.5 and 2 inch flat irons I've tried before -it seems less likely to crimp my hair and seemed easier to use, so I'll shop other 1 inch irons and this one will be returned.

To our dismay the item Amazon shipped us appears to be a counterfeit since we can't register it on ghd's site. Also, the box says that it was "Manufactured in P.R.C." whereas everything else I've read says the real ones are made in South Korea. I'm very disappointed that Amazon doesn't have better control over its supply chain. Caveat Emptor!

I'm so glad I finally bit the bullet and purchased the ghd straightener! I had been eying it for years on Sephora, but could never shell out that much money. This roller set is perfect! With other hot roller sets, I've had difficulty keeping the bobby-pin style clips in (I have thick hair). I tried another set of rollers with a jaw-style clip, but the clips left impressions in my hair. The clips in this set are very easy to use and stay in place. I like the variety of roller sizes too. I read a review (on another site) mentioning that the set does not get hot enough. I had that impression too until I realized I had the switch on the "standby" setting. Plug the set in, turn the switch to the "in use" setting, and you'll have hot rollers in under 5 minutes. If you leave the set "in use" for longer than that, you will have piping hot rollers. Just switch the set over to "standby" to cool them off a bit.

I have shoulder length, straight hair that's limp and flat within 3 hours of shampooing if I don't style it (I am really not exaggerating this). I had no problems with these rollers heating up to very hot within 5 minutes and I left them in my hair about 10-15 minutes, depending on how much time I had. My hair looks fantastic with these more body, more volume, and waves or curls depending on the size I used. I sprayed my hair lightly with hairspray before and after to help out, but that's all I really did. Just make sure you have the switch on "In use" as opposed to "standby" and heat them up with the lid on. I left them on "in use" even after I took the lid off and was putting them in my hair and I had no problems. You will have to buy more hair clips as everyone said already, only 15 clips for 30 rollers is, let's face it, retarded.
