I bought this after falling in love with my friend's Cortex straightener. I loved it at first (though I wished it was be a bit wider), but after a few months of use, it just seemed to lose its spunk slowly. When I first got it, I couldn't believe how hot it got. That changed over time. It still works when I plug it in, just not NEARLY as hot as it used to get. I have very naturally curly/frizzy hair and need a super hot iron when I straighten it. I quickly replaced this, with another brand, and keep my Cortex at work just in case of frizz emergencies. That is all it is good for at this point. My friend still loves her Cortex that she had for years before I got mine though, so maybe I just got a bad apple.I have bought and used several different flat irons throughout the years. My hair is naturally curly, so to wear it straight I have to first blow dry it straight making sure that it is completely dry. Then I still have to use a flat iron to smoothe the frizz. However, with this Cortex Pro Flat Iron, I can blow dry my hair without the hassle of making sure every single strand is straight and dry. The flat iron smoothes the frizz instantly and my hair will stay smooth until the next shampoo. Love it!I love this flat iron. I purchased the flat iron not too long ago, probably during the summer. But I love this product. I use it to curl and straighten my hair and it works both ways. What I like best is how nice the curls turn out and how there is an on and off switch, but the only disadvantage is it doesn't have levels of degree on it to choose from. But overall I do recommend this product to people that love doing their hair.
