As someone who has used both the Titanium and Silicone 450 flat irons from Salon Tech, I will contribute the following observation and warning to people considering these irons. In general I would say that these products have some great potential and for some they may work very well. However, they also have an extreme failure rate when used in a professional setting at the highest temperature (possibly in other settings as well). In fact the failure rate is virtually 100% within 6 months of operation with some failing in as little as 2 months. These irons have been used in a salon setting, operated at 450 degrees and used for straighteners which they are advertised as being very good for. If you are using the iron for personal use and/or operating it at lower temperatures then your mileage may vary but it's very questionable whether these irons are truly suitable for professional use.

I have given the product 2 stars because these irons are not complete junk (as so many others are) and are in fact very well made. But the failure rate is simply unacceptable to someone who needs to rely on an iron and it makes me very leery about ever purchasing or recommending another one until I see some strong indication from Salon Tech that they have addressed this problem. The warranty on these irons is 1 year and in the past I have simply written them off and not bothered (in part because the replacement iron carries the same warranty except that it begins at the original purchase date so when it fails it'll pretty much be guaranteed to be out of warranty). Also, a warranty return should be an exceptional event and not a regular occurrence. At the moment I have decided to try the warranty return on a Silicone 450 that failed within 2 months so I'll probably update this review with my warranty experience.

In conclusion, if you are a person who needs a reliable iron then you should be cautious about putting too much faith in this product until the failure rate issue is addressed. If you are planning to use this iron occasionally in a personal setting then it's possible that it will suit your needs but my experiences are related to professional use so I can't truly address that.

I absolutely love this styling iron. I recently moved to a new city; therefore I had to find a new hairstylist. I did and my hair has never felt so silky and healthy looking. So I asked her what she was putting on my hair to make it so silky. She held up the styling iron and told me "THESE" (referring to the styling iron) are the best thing since sliced bread :). They are a bit expensive but no doubt they are well worth it.

If you want to get this Salon Tech silicon 450 flat iron, you want to buy the model #PFIS100. However be careful! You want to contact the seller to make certain the iron has these two features before purchasing. The model #PFIS100 beeps when it reaches the designated temperature,and it shuts automatically after certain time. You want these features; otherwaise, you are buying a downgraded product or it may not even a genuine product. I have ordered PFIS100 advertised product and got model#PFIS100N. If you get model #PFIS100N, it does not beep when it reaches the designated temperature and it does not shut off automatically. There are different sellers selling model#PFIS100 and #PFIS100N. I am puzzled sometimes PFIS100N is more expensive than PFIS 100. Bottomline, contact the seller to make certain the iron beeps and turns off automatically.

I LOVE this flat iron! The iron is very light and easy to maneuver. It heats up extremely quickly and maintains a constant temperature. It has adjustable heat settings up to 450 degrees. Since the heat stay constant, it makes doing my hair a quick and easy task. One pass with this iron does the trick... I use it to straighten and curl my hair and it works awesomely on both tasks. It is everything I dreamed a flat iron could be!

I recently ordered the Salon Tech 450 with the model number PFIS100. I noticed right away it wasn't like my previous straightener; it didn't beep when it was warmed up, it didn't turn off after being left on for 30 minutes and it also had trouble working if the wire wasn't placed right. I looked more into this and read up on reviews. When I did so, I noticed people's reviews mentioning not to buy the straightener with Model number PFIS100N for these exact problems I was running into. I searched the box to find the model number and found that AMAZON HAD PUT A STICKER OVER THE BAD PART NUMBER (PFIS100N) AND REPLACED IT WITH THE MODEL NUMBER THAT WAS GOOD (PFIS100). I am more than furious about this situation and will NEVER purchase anything else from amazon. I highly recommend paying the extra dollars for this straightener off Salon Tech's website. I had previously owned the correct one for more than 3 years and never had a problem with it other than when I plugged it in on vacation to Mexico that broke it. I HIGHGLY RECOMMEND NOT BUYING THIS PRODUCT FROM THIS SITE AS THEY PUT A FRAUD STICKER ON MY BOX. SO WRONG!
