CHI Iron Guard Protection Spray, 8.5 Ounce

CHI Iron Guard Protection Spray, 8.5 OunceI use quite a lot of the CHI line, but this is my everyday go to. It gives a good hold to my curls, enough to survive a little wind without being 'crunchy' to the feel. I have fine but naturally curly hair that is frizz prone, but this controls frizz for me whether I flat iron it straight or use a curling iron to order the curls (I live on a Caribbean island, and the humidity and 6 months of rainy season here is notorious for frizzing). I should also mention that although I have fine hair, this product doesn't weigh my hair down at all, there is no residue, stickiness or buildup and if you use it once you can use your heat tools over and over again until you wash your hair, it regenerates with heat. I find that it does make a noticeable difference when you use it, meaning that my 350 430 degree curling and flat irons don't fry my hair and leave it broken or damaged. It gives a nice sheen to the hair as well. For those saying that it is to stiff are using way too much product. I have hair mid-way down my back and I just use about 5-6 sprays at little distance, then I use a paddle brush and brush it through so the product is evenly distributed. I use it on either wet or dry hair, but mostly I use it on dry hair. I find if I bend over so my hair hangs down and spray it and brush it though and then flip my hair back that I get some volume as well (for super volume I recommend this technique using CHI helmet head, which I use in place of iron guard for those occasions that you really can't afford to have your hair messed up, and for really glossy sleek hair with good hold I use CHI twisted fabric). Overall I really love this product and highly recommend it.

This product smells great and works like a charm. I use it before flat ironing or blow drying; works well in both scenarios.

This paste is definitely twisted. It tames the most unruly hair into place making your daily styling easier. Will add to your hair's shine and sleekness making a result more polished. Not oily or starchy. I have used other finishing pastes and this one gets my vote. I am very pleased with the results.

While overall the CHI Iron Guard Protection Spray does a good job overall I feel Redken does a better job.

Although CHI does a good job at makes your hair looking shiny it does leave a slight sticky residue to your hair that when you finger comb through your hair you know it is not natural and reminds you that you have product in your hair. REDKEN does not do that.

Overall the look between the two products is the same the CHI makes my hair feeling slightly more heavier and stickier than REDKEN does.

I used Tresseme's heat protectant before this, but you get what you pay for. While Tresseme's wasn't necessarily bad, I felt that it left my hair greasy. This one doesn't at all. I don't wash my hair everyday, but need to straighten it, so I use this spray before straightening it, and follow it up with dry shampoo. There is some residue, but I think you're going to get that with any hair product that is supposed to be protecting your hair (you need to have some kind of shield and you would get that with a waxy/greasy product. But after the dry shampoo my hair looks like I just washed it. With Tresseme's it didn't work out as well and I would have to resort to putting it up.

The smell is musky but I don't mind it. I can't even smell it after I use my straightener so it doesn't stay with you all day. Of course, people's opinions on the smell are their own and there is no right or wrong answer.

For me, this product works. But I think people need to test drive products for themselves. I have fine, thin hair and love this product.
