Farouk Deep Brilliance Ceramic Hairstyling Flat Iron Mini .5"

Farouk Deep Brilliance Ceramic Hairstyling Flat Iron Mini .5'Several years ago I started out using a cheap drugstore flat iron for my thick wavy hair. After talking to my stylist and my friends I got a 1½" Sedu and a 1" Solia flat iron for my long hair, and then my inverted bob (Posh Spice). They're pricey but you get what you pay for. I got nice SILKY STRAIGHT hair with those brands. Now with my boy haircut (Demi Moore in Ghost) I needed a narrower flat iron. After much research I finally bought this Farouk ½" mini. It's about 10 inches long and 1½ inch at its widest point.

Pros: narrow for short hair or bangs, quick heating with display light, adjustable temperature (140º 400º), smooth ceramic surface means no pulling or catching, swivel cord, the tip stays cool enough so I can handle it, the two sides compress for better holding if I want to hold the ends and the price.

Cons: they sell out quickly, the directions are minimal. FYI The Sedu and Solia manuals suggest around 340 350° for normal hair texture, less for bleached, damaged, fine hair and above that (370°) for coarse, thick, ethnic or otherwise resistant hair.

Get a good haircut, use a deep moisturizer once a week and you'll be good to go for a great price! Highly recommended.

I really like this product, it gets really close to the root and produces a very silky/shiny result. I've used it on my 11 year old daughter's natural (unpermed) hair and it is It is perfect for African American hair textures. I've replaced my CHI Irons (which I paid $85.00 more for) and I can now create the same fresh from the salon look at home.

I prefer this iron to my Farouk Chi iron. It is less bulky and I can work with it very easily and get very close to the scalp. There is a temperature heat adjustment. It reaches temperature very quickly.

Any flat iron you buy outside of a salon does not come with the 1 year warranty. However that one year warranty is not all it is cracked up to be and each salon has it's "rules" for returning. All of my flat irons break because I drop them too many times and most salons will not refund money for what they feel is "abuse" (e.g. dropping them). That being said, it is very worth forgoing the 1 year warranty to pay 1/3rd of the salon price for this flat iron. It is excellent for short hair and finishing touches. I have naturally curly, thick, coarse hair cut into a bob and use this on my front pieces and the back of my hair. I do use a 1 inch flat iron for the longer sides of my hair. It is also great for adding volume at the roots. Especially if your hair is heavy. You can get very close to your scalp with this iron for some root lift. This works as well as my Chi and I highly recommend.

I don't have a ton of texture or curl in my hair, so pretty much any straightener would be adequate for me. That said, this one's narrow heating wand is perfect for getting closer to the scalp (safely) than most other straighteners. If it broke, I would buy it again.
