Wash your hair with the clarifying shampoo (provided)
Get out of the shower and towel dry and gently comb your hair
Put in the leave-in conditioner (also provided. it was very runny for some reason, so be careful when pouring it out) Then gently comb that through your hair. The directions didn't specify whether to dry your hair or leave it wet, but I left it wet.
Section hair into 6 sections and clip each section up
Starting in the back, take one section out of the clip, separate out a 1/4" section (clip the rest of the section back up) and apply Step 1 with a tint brush. I started just below the root and pulled it through to the ends.
Continue doing this for the remaining sections of hair until all the hair is covered with Step 1. I GENTLY combed my hair every once in a while to be sure it was all covered.
You're supposed to cover your hair with plastic wrap (while keeping it as straight as possible) while it processes, but I didn't have any so I skipped this step.
After 5 minutes, do the knot test. Take a small section of hair (a little thinner than a pencil) and gently tie it in a knot. Let go of the end opposite from the root and if it opens back up, let it keep processing. If it stays closed, it's fully processed. Continue to perform knot tests on different sections of hair until knots in all different parts of your hair stay closed (back, front, bangs, near the root, near the ends, etc.)
Once all of your hair is processed (mine took about 20 mins), rinse your hair for 5 to 7 mins. It will feel thicker since the shaft of the hair has opened, absorbed the product and grown in size (or so the interwebs tells me)
Using a blow dryer pointing downwards, tousle hair with your fingers and dry until it's about 80% dry. You should notice a difference in the straightness and manageability of your hair at this point.
Section your hair into 6 sections and clip up (try to keep it as straight as possible, even though this seems contradictory)
Taking 1/4" sections again, flat iron your hair at a 90 degree angle from your head and get it as straight as possible. Go over each section 2 or 3 times. This is the step that determines how straight your hair comes out at the end. You may want to curl your ends in a little bit to make it look more natural. I used a Conair Infiniti Flat Iron on 446 degrees.
Once all of your hair has been flat ironed, section it into 6 sections again and very carefully clip it out of the way. You don't want to undo all that flat ironing that you just did!
Taking 1/4" sections, pour Step 2 onto the hair. Use enough to get the hair completely wet, but not dripping. This step is a little runny, so I poured it onto my gloved hand and gently rubbed/blotted it onto my hair. I GENTLY combed my hair every once in a while to be sure it was all covered. By the time I got to the front of my hair, it was crimped from the clips, so I touched it up with the flat iron before applying Step 2, just to be sure it didn't stay that way.
Once all your hair is covered with Step 2, allow it to process for 5 mins.
Rinse your hair for 5 to 7 mins. Do not shampoo or condition (I may be wrong about the conditioner, but definitely don't shampoo)
Dry your hair with a blow dryer again and point it downwards.
Touch up any areas that need it with a flat iron.
For the next 48 hours, don't let your hair get wet, don't wash it, don't crimp/curl it, don't clip it, don't tuck it behind your ears, just let it hang straight down. Any bumps you get in your hair at this point could stay in it since it's still processing. When I woke up each morning, I would touch it up with a flat iron to keep it straight, but don't overdo it since too much heat/tugging could damage it at this point. I did use some dry shampoo in the morning since my hair gets very oily. Not sure if this will affect the process, but I couldn't NOT do something for 2 days. Gross.
After the 48 hours is up, shampoo with a product intended for processed hair (preferably with a low pH) and deep conditioner. I used Enjoy Hydrating Shampoo, Hydrating Conditioner and Hair Mask.
I could not be happier with the results. I seriously cannot believe I got the same results that I would have gotten in the salon for $300+ less. The total time it took me was 5 hours. It probably would have gone a little faster with help from a friend, but none of my friends are as much of a perfectionist as I am. I can literally wash my hair and walk out the door and have perfectly straightened, soft, shiny, frizz-free hair. My ends are kind of dry/split, but they needed help before this process since I haven't gotten a hair cut in about 9 months and dried and flat ironed my hair almost every day.
If you've ever colored your own hair and can use a flat iron, you can do this yourself at home! Don't let people scare you into paying hundreds of dollars at a salon for the same results (unless your hair has been bleached or is damaged, then I would definitely recommend seeing a professional first).
Sorry this is so long, but I always appreciate when people take the time to write these reviews so I'm just doing my part :-)I had been using hair relaxers up until around 3 years ago because we finally discovered that relaxers were causing my allergic reactions. I started with relaxers around the age of 15, however, at the age of 16, I started having allergic reactions to "something" but my dermatologist could not determine the cause. We finally figured out that it was the relaxers when I was 30 years old. My face, and upper body broke-out with red welts and did not go away until I stopped getting the relaxers. The problem was that my hair is so course, that I need some type of straightener. My natural hair is probably as course as they come.
I finally discovered the thermal straighteners 1 year ago. I used Matrix Opti-smooth the first time and it came out okay (not super straight). The second time (last week) I used the One and Only brand and my hair is super straight. It is shiny, silky, and full of body. This makes it so easy to style my hair and takes me a lot less time in the mornings. I am amazed.
I do not have allergic reactions to the chemicals in the thermal straighteners and I am so happy that they came along.

My 13 year old daughter has naturally thick, frizzy and very unruly hair and she hates it. I tried other hair straighteners but didn't work. I was ready to bite the bullet and pay the big bucks to get it straightened at a salon but decided to try this as a last ditch effort for afforadable permanent solution.I was very impressed that kit even included the shampoo and that there was a good amount of the product. I thought that I would use all of the product as her hair is really thick but I only used half and when it was rinsed off and neuralised it was still straight.
I dried the hair with a hairdryer and it was still straight and used the flat iron on it and it was soft, pin straight and very shiny.
It has now been almost 2 weeks and her hair is still gorgeous and no sign of damage to the hair and she loves it, especially as it now takes her only 30 mins to wash, dry and flat iron her hair and if she doesn't have time to flat iron her hair it is still straight.
I would recommend this product to anyone who has resistant hair. It has saved me a fortune at the salon.I few years ago I splurged on one of those japanese thermal straightener treatments at a local salon. It cost me just over $500. I loved how my hair looked afterwards though and I've really been wanting to get it done again...but my finances just weren't going to allow it. A friend of mine suggested I check out Amazon for salon quality products for keratin treatments and such. The more reviews I read the more excited I got about trying this. One 'N Only had some great looking reviews and an amazingly affordable price.
I ordered my kit on a Tuesday and it showed up that Friday. I was anxious to try this out but after looking through the directions I decided I better get somebody to help me. I have a friend who is a professional stylist so I asked her if she could apply it for me. She wasn't familar with the product but the instructions were clear enough for us to easiy follow. We applied the product the following Friday. After reading some reviews, I knew to expect my hair to stink and be kinda funky until I would be able to wash it so I wanted to do it Friday after work so I wouldn't have to sit at work with stinky hair.
My hair looks FANTASTIC now! I posted some before/after pics in the customer image section on the product page. It's very soft and manageable. I know a lot of people go into these treatments thinking they will have perfectly styled hair right after stepping out of the shower...that's no a realistic expectation. What this product does do is transform the texture of your hair which, in turn, makes brushing, drying and styling about 10x faster and easier. I prefer to let my hair air dry so I don't have to subject it to more high heat than necissary but if I didn't get into the shower and wash my hair within about an hour of getting home from work, I'd have to blow dry...I don't go to bed with wet hair. Blow drying hair as thick as mine can take easily 30 minutes and longer. After this treatment, air drying is not only faster but it doesn't dry and turn into a huge fluff ball. It's manageable enough to run the flat iron Remington S9951 Shine Therapy Frizz Control, Humidity Resistant Ceramic Flat Hairstyling Iron, 1 Inch over it a few times and my styling is DONE. I wash my hair at night so that way all I have to do is wake up in the morning and freshen it up with my flat iron. The results are amazing and now I can sleep in an extra 20-30 minutes without having to stress over getting my hair fixed in time.
I would suggest if you are considering using this product to have somebody that has had experience with these or similar treatments help you...at least for the first time through. I wouldn't want to do my own hair though because trying to reach the back of my hair is literally a pain. It's nice to have somebod that can easily stand up (while you sit) and blow dry and straighten for you. This will help to better ensure that every inch of your hair has been treated with high heat to lock in the product.
Also, after the stage one stuff had to sit in my hair the instructions recommend covering your hair with a shower cap or something. HOWEVER, if you have long hair a shower cap isn't ideal. Your hair has to stay straight while the product is setting...any curls or kinks that occur from shoving your hair into the shower cap can get stuck into that kink after the final step. We just covered my hair with plastic wrap to make sure it was kept back and out of my face.
Overall, this is a great product for people like me who refuse to embrace the curls we were "blessed" with. And since the price is less than what most women spend on a hair cut by itself, I think it's highly worth it.I have highlighted hair. I decided against getting the formula for highlighted hair as I was worried it would not be strong enough. I purchased the normal formula.. I applied the product generously and waited.. and waited and waited. The highlighted part of my hair finally passed the knot test, but after an almost an hour, and getting worried that I was leaving the product on for too long (the directions said it would process in 7-30 minutes), I decided to take my chances and wash it off before the highlighted parts melted and turned gummy... I rinsed in the shower for 10 minutes to ensure it was all rinsed off (my hair isn't that thick but I wanted to be certain). My flat iron only allows me to increase the temp in 50 degree increments. The directions said 338 to 356 F. I decided to go with 400 (I think I had initially made a mistake converting celsius to farenheit but others have said they use a very hot setting anyways). My hair didnt feel all that good and it wanted to tangle while I was selecting sections to flat iron.. Parts of it also seemed a little crunchy? anyways, I plunged forward and flat ironed it all out then did the neutralizer and rinsing.. I blew it dry (it still seemed a little dry and tangly).. My hair is now pretty pin straight and most parts feel soft.. The ends of the highlighted parts are a little fried and I will need a trim, but overall, it's pretty nice! I can't wait til th 48 hours are up and I can deep condition it before trimming.. and of course to see it it's still straight... I wonder though, why my hair still sprung back with pretty good vigor when doing the knot test.. did I apply too much conditioner? it was hard to figure out how much to use of the runny stuff.. did I not saturate my hair enough in step 1? It seemed like I had put a lot on... should I have taken the risk and left it on even longer? should I have instead purchased the resistant formula? I dont know.. I do know that I like the results, even if I have to get a minor trim for the dry damaged ends.. once that is done and I can use the after-care products on it, I am sure it will be even silkier and shinier! I would use this again although I sure do wish I knew why it never passed that knot test...
