The flat iron is ok, I thought that I wouldn't have to turn up the temp. all the way to 430* in order for it to be as hot as it was in the mall when they did the little demostration. But that could be because they have them on all day, not sure.

Definitely not purple! It is pink, but it straightens my hair very well and I have naturally curly, kinky hair :)
