I first purchased this Mini Travel Flat Iron in December 2009 for my daughter who has VERY thick very curly hair. It does a beautiful job of straightening without being too harsh or burning her hair. Even though this is a mini styler the plates are actually full size. It did take her a few tries to get used to the smaller handle and after a short while she could finish nearly as fast as with a standard size model. The iron started to develop a short several weeks ago and then finally died. At her request I've purchased the same one again; she had the option to choose any other model or price point but asked for this once specifically, citing excellent results in straightening and convenience of a smaller size in small dorm bathrooms and for travel.
As a personal observation I think the smaller size forces the user to work with smaller sections which has three great benefits: smoother results than when working in larger sections, ability to use a lower heat setting and still get shiny results, and NO burnt smell in the hair! The trade off is that it may require a little bit more time to work the smaller sections but the better results also last longer. Also, in comparison, my Linea Pro full size model (which gets similar results for her) has lasted about 4 years so far but cost about $200; for the modest price the GVP model is sold, I think it's reasonable to have had just almost two years use out of the GVP brand before replacing it.
Pleased with this purchase and recommended with very slight caution regarding product longevity.
