I purchased this because I was traveling and needed a dual voltage flat iron that would work in South America. I usually use an excellent flat iron on my hair and couldn't find a super high quality 220v. (Now I am glad it wasn't expensive because Homeland Security stole a bunch of things from my luggage when I came back into the country. I would have been very upset had they taken my $200 Chi!)
This iron is not super high quality, but it did the job in South America and I didn't have to worry about it being lost or stolen. This is an excellent travel iron. For the price, it is worth it. It does get very hot, although my hair wasn't as smooth as with my usual iron. It may also depend on the travel destination. I live in Las Vegas and it is quite dry here, South America is much more humid. It's possible the iron would have performed better in a dry climate.
Bottom line: I wouldn't use this as my primary iron, but it is good for temporary use.
