I have had this comb since 2003 and it has worked wonders on my thick, coarse, frizzy hair. The only problem I have is that the temp. control box I have on my model came apart after almost 10 years and when the wires come in contact with metal it burns out. After almost 10 years it's time for a new one!!!I have used gold n hot products for years. When my electric hot comb recently broke (after many, many, many years) I thought I would just go back to the old fashion hot comb on the stove top or in the electric ceramic iron stove. That thought lasted for only 1 press! I love the steady tmperature of the electric iron vs the back and forth varying heat of the old fashion irons. The very next day I ordered a new gold n hot electric iron, and couldn't be more pleased! This electric hot comb is not the best but it gets the job done. It is nothing like the old fashion comb but it's allot safer. You have to use maximum heat to get it hot enough to straitened hair.Stansport Portable Shower

I have had this comb for the past 7 years with no incident. I am African American I have cottony fine 4b hair. I had to learn how to press my hair when I got this comb, I also learned that you have to "season" the comb because its metal just like a cast iron or stainless steel skillet. Once I learned (after 1-2 attempts) to press my hair I have frequently pressed my hair with this comb with out incident. I can get my hair bone straight with this comb -people usually think I went to the salon. WARNING this comb gets VERY hot. With out silicones I would press my hair at no hotter than 16 on the dial. With silicones the dial is slightly lower at 12 14. I highly recommend this comb if you prefer a hot comb to a flat iron -just make sure you know how to use it. The teeth of the comb do not straighten the hair the BACK of the comb straightens the hair along with the right amount of tension. This pressing comb is not for people who have very coarse, or curly hair. The comb does not get hot enough to straighten all of the "kinks" out. I am an African American with "fine" hair, and I have to wait over 15 minutes for the comb to reach a temperature that is hot enough to temporary "straighten" my hair. All of that heating evenually burned out the comb...the comb lasted less than a year before it kunked out. An electric heater stove for your non-electric hot comb is a better alternative.
