Most important to know before purchasing is the actual size of the rollers. In this travel set, "large" rollers are 1 inch. The "medium" rollers are 3/4 inch. If you have a standard set of rollers, you are probably used to 3/4 being very small, possibly unusable. Depends on your hair style I guess.

The unit has spindles which fit either size of roller no need to place small rollers on small spindles and medium rollers on medium size ones. One size spindle fits all. This is an advantage if you want to travel with ALL 1-inch size. You can buy one unit and then purchase additional rollers by filling in the replacement order form that comes in the box. Conair will sell you three 1 inch size rollers for $6.00 plus $1.00 postage/handling. For $14 you can have enough 1 inch rollers to replace the 3/4 in the unit.

I found the rollers do indeed get hot enough, not only at the base but all throughout the roller, top to bottom. You may have to let them heat for about 10 minutes, though.

1 inch rollers a bit too tight for me so I will have to return the unit. I will continue to travel with my standard set which has my favorite 1 1/4 size rollers, removing of course the top transparent lid which never fails to crack as it goes through luggage handling in an airport.

I saw this in one of the travel brochures, but more expensive. This dual watt curler works great! The way the curler is constructed (with the spokes), I don't even need plastic clips in addition to the wire clips = they stay on with just the wire clips.

Curlers don't heat well, take a long time and then not very hot. Pins to hold them in also don't work too well, curlers fall out if you walk around fast, which I tend to do while getting ready to leave house. Disappointed.
