As an African American I wanted my natural hair to become more manageable without chemicals. When the Keratin Treatment is first applied the hair cannot be oiled, sprayed, no rubberbands etc. for 3 days. On the 3rd day after it gets washed out my hair is very soft, light and straight with body. I'm impressed because I have coarse hair and it feels very perm like without the chemicals.

I was very pleased with this product. If you are comparing with Organix at home Keratin Treatment (which I have used w/poor results), Ion's is way better!

It took me about 3 hours, BUT if you were at the salon, it would take the same time. I also got results comparable to when my hair dresser does this (although I have not gotten it done professionally in about 9 months, so that had nothing to do with my results).

You do have to follow the directions exactly, especially when it recommends to straighten hair in 1/8" sections, that made a huge difference. Also, if you can get someone to help you apply the product that makes a difference, otherwise patience goes a long way! I prefer to straighten myself (unless its a professional) because I have perfected straightening my own hair, but warning, your arms will hurt if you straighten your own. For me it was worth it!

My hair turned out as sleek as it does when my hair stylist does it. It also looked shiny with no waxy residue. Once I wash it, I will update this review to comment on how well it lasts...but remember this is not a salon strngth kit and is only meant to last 4-6 weeks (salon strength lasts about 3 months).

I am biracial with a mix of different hair types-curly, coarse and straight. This treatment makes my hair very pin straight and sleek, however, normally for me when I wash it is loose curly...we will see!

I have long hair, so it took my mom at least 4 hours to complete this process:

1) Wash hair 3 times

2) Blow dry

3) Apply treatment

4) Blow dry again

5) Flat iron

My hair went from frizzy, poofy, and thick, to thin and super-straight. I love how soft/sleek it is, and how it isn't affected by the weather. Some people are really fine with the results, but for me and my face shape, I must have more volume. Also, I expected it to look shinier. Maybe I needed a little more conditioning on my hair? Also, I think that after I wash my hair, it will gain some volume and wave, which is what I prefer. So if you try the treatment, and it doesn't look the way you want it at first, see what it looks like after you wash and/or use the treatment a second time later on. Lastly, you might need to touch it up with the flat iron a little bit if you get bedhead frizzies.

I have been doing JAPANESE straighteners or BRAZILIANS for over 10 years now. I have fine, wavy hair and a lot of it! But with any major straightening treatment, it always caused damage to my hair and scalp and I'd often not be able to do much with color changes because of trying to keep my hair straight and healthy. Well I was fed up with $300 for the ORGANIC non formaldehyde versions of the KERATIN treatments as they DID NOT EVER WORK. YES, the BRAZILIAN works BECAUSE it has the formaldehyde in it still but it WILL change the structure of your hair and over time, you'll the difference. I was worried about trying this product over recent highlights. I also use clip in extensions. So maintaining health of my hair was #1!! Well, after reading the reviews here, I was confident enough to at least give it a try. and BOY am i GLAD I DID!!!! For $30, this product not only WORKED at making my fine hair SMOOTH and FREE free, it seemed to IMPROVE the condition and color job of my hair AND helped my normally irritable scalp. YES, its a bit long to do the entire process but at most 3 hours total. I even didn't keep my hair 'perfectly straight" for 3 days after(nearly impossible to do anyhow)and it STILL took hold and worked fine. The only thing is that it will only last you around 6 weeks before needing to do it again. I use Sulfate Free products, etc. Its not as LONG LASTING as a KERATIN but its NOT NEARLY as DAMAGING either! It WILL NOT straighten your hair but only relax the curls a lot and keep it all frizz free. For fine haired girls, this will be fine. For AFRICAn hair wishing pin straight look, probably not. I DID use their clarifying shampoo with it, used it 3 times only as my hair is colored and began the process. It seemed to tone and bring out my highlights even more once treatment finished ironing. The treatment smells yummy! I am VERY happy with this product and really need it only during the most humid months. WHY damage your hair for only a few months of hot weather anyhow?

PS. I started buying ION products seeing i was so impressed with this one and i MUST SAY! IMPRESSIVE ! I swear they're as good in quality as the KERASTASE line!

PS. I buy my WELLA professional color line from AMAZON and dye my own hair now, saving myself the $150 monthly salon fee. HIGHLIGHTING I'll leave to the experts but WELLA's color lines are great too!
