CHI Ionic Single Pass Ceramic Hairstyling Iron 1", Designer Chameleon

This is by far the best flat iron evah! It's the best investment I have made on a hair styling tool. I have used MANY irons to straighten my hair. This iron leaves hair shiny and smooth. You know how some flatirons straighten hair but still leave it fluffy? NOT this iron. Bone straight, soft, smooth hair every time! Even heat. It's ready to go almost as soon as you turn it on. I don't know what else to say, except, I know it's alot of money, but it was worth it to me. I have had mine for 9 years now. I have yet to find another that does the job right!

This straightener is truely a SINGLE PASS hair straightener! My hair is thick and it used to take me 30-40 minutes to straighten my hair, now its half that time, and my hair is silky smooth. I really love the new Chi Ionic!

If you want to get a CHI I would recommend getting the ones that don't have the silicone strip in the plates. It straightened ok but it pulled out my hair with every pass. Very uncomfortable to use.

My friend, an excessive gift giver like myself, purchased this for me for my birthday in August 2012. I was in love! Nothing had ever straightened my hair like this magical little straightener. I woke up smiling in the morning knowing my frizzy curls could now to straightened properly. I bragged about it to my hairdresser. She also raved but gave me one piece of advicedon't wrap the cord as it will shorten the life of it. I babied this little Chi! In February I plugged it in as always and the light didn't come on. Turns out the cord attached to the unit wasn't connecting anymore and my precious Chi is useless after 6 months. My Conair crimper I got in 6th grade in 1989 from Kmart for 14.99 still works but this cost over 100.00 and it doesn't work after 6 months?! Nothing I could do about it either because she bought it off amazon and warranties only apply if it is from the salon. I haven't even had the heart to tell her it broke months ago. From what I'm hearing, Chi products just aren't what they used to be!

Hot Tools Classic Gold Marcel Iron

I have had these Hot Tools Marcel irons before. Mine have always lasted several years, but since the last one quit i was using a regular iron, and just kept putting off buying another Hot Tools Marcel. Now that i have one again I remember just how much I love them. They work so fast in my hair. As always with a Marcel you have to be careful of how hot they get and not having a covered tip. It does take some practice to use the marcel, but it is worth it. I can make a title curl or loose curl with the same iron. I have always purchased my Marcel Irons from my hairsytlist, and was a bit nervous to try purchasing on line. After a month of using it, i see no difference and was very happy with the price!

It works great. Gets really hot, so need to set it for your hair type. I use it on myself and my daughter. We both have longer hair, not sure this would be too good for someone with shorter hair. Overall I'm very happy with it.

I love hot tools! These curling irons are all I use in the salon and hold their heat well. The curl is superior. Never get buildup or crusties on the rod and has a heat control setting which is nice for delicate or coarse hair. Marcel is perfect. My only complaint is that the cords always end up melting on other rods or showing wires which eventually short right up by where the cord attaches to the base. I usually get a good year, maybe18 months out of one of these but never more. Keep in mind I use it repeatedly almost daily though. Wish the cord was better but love everything else!

I love this curling iron! My hair is temperamental and sometimes difficult to style. This iron does a great job of creating the exact look I want that lasts throughout the day. The lever does not have a spring and is on the opposite side of most curling irons--this takes some getting used too, but is great once you get used to it. I love that you can set the temperature you want as well as release the handle to spin as you release the curl. The iron doesn't have an automatic off, which is AMAZING because you constantly get an even temperature which cuts down on curling time (you don't have to wait on it to reheat like most)and cuts down on "frizzy curls." Despite using the iron everyday, at the highest temperature setting, I have yet to experience any "fried ends"!

I basically took my chances with one of the other companies that wasn't mentioned in the bad review and bought this straightener. I was worried it was going to be a fake. Item came and I'm thrilled! It looks perfect! It works perfect! And now that I have a 2 inch straightener I can be done even faster! If you want a REAL cortex straightener with no flaws, order from True Colors Co. or one of the other companies that wasn't reviewed as selling "fakes". You won't regret it!

I purchased this to replace my existing Cortex flat iron, which I have had for years and swear by. To my surprise, the iron that I received was a cheap knockoff. It was metal with a super thin ceramic coating, NOT solid ceramic. When I inspected it I could tell that the plates were not the same quality as my current iron, and then I found two chips at the corners and was able to see just how poorly it was constructed. The faux ceramic coating can't be more that a millimeter or two thick. The seller (Pro Salon Beauty) did allow me to return it, but they subtracted $10 from my refund for their shipping costs and it cost me $12 to send it back. So I end up paying $22 for nothing all because I was sent a damaged knockoff product.

I went back to the distributor that I bought my original iron from and and finally got a REAL solid ceramic Cortex. I told him about my awful online experience and he told me that it was bogus and the platinum line Cortex irons are supposed to be solid. All in all I am very disappointed. If you just want a cheap flat iron and don't really care about the materials, then go ahead and buy this. If you do care about what you use on your hair, then save yourself from throwing away your money.

I bought my Fahrenheit Titanium at TJMaxx for $30. I have very naturally curly crazy frizzy hair I was very skeptical because I have never spent so little on an Iron before. I had my CHI for 8 years and it worked great, I loved it, then the cord broke and I needed a new iron fast. I did a little research and decided I wanted a Titanium iron but couldn't afford a Babyliss (which is the best) so I picked this one up. I went straight to my friend's house and plugged in her brand new CHI ultra and my new Fahrenheit. My Fahrenheit heated up faster than the CHI. We then decided to do a one pass test with each iron. The CHI did the job but could use a couple more passes, but my Fahrenheit sealed the deal with one pass and left it softer and more shinny that the CHI. I like that you can change the heat setting and the non-slip grip will help me from dropping it. I also like that it has a small plug so I can have two styling tools plugged in at one time. BUY THIS FLAT IRON.... It's worth it!!!!!

I bought this from Marshalls for $35.00. I needed an extra straightner because my roommate was going out of town and needed to take the one we have. This straightner is 10X better than the CHI I have been use to. The chi I have to run over my hair several times and pulls my hair. This straightner is the best ever! It gets hotter than my CHI and I can change the temp. :)

*edit: So I decided to buy a different straightener, and will just take this one on trips. I bought a Solia 1 1/4 inch and It works better, but this is a ton less money. But if you do have a some money (less than 100$), you should buy the Solia.

This is the second flat iron that I have owned. The first was much more expensive and I like this one much more. It works well for my semi curly/frizzy hair. Favorite part is the heat resistant storage pad saves my counter tops form scorching as I just set it on the pad. The pad is also nice to store it in as it keeps the cord neatly in place when storing the iron.

This item was recommended to me by a stylist in the beauty supply store/salon who said she had owned one herself and loved it. Excited to use it for the first time, I plugged it in this morning and per the instructions, set it to a low setting (the dial goes to 30 I set it at 5) and let it heat up while brushing my teeth. Within 30 seconds, I started smelling an awful smell and looked down to see the flat iron smoking. The blades had gotten so hot that they melted their own housing. I don't know if this is a malfunction just on the one iron I happened to pick out, or a commonly reported problem with this product but mine is definitely not usable, and I will be forced to return it to the store (unfortunately 40 miles away) as soon as possible. :(

Let me state up front that I cannot compare this flat iron to the CHIs and other high-end brands don't have a clue how well those work or how they compare to this one, because I've never used one of those.

I had been using a couple of older drugstore straighteners. Well, guess what? Those don't work very well I have long, thick, coarse hair, and I would typically spend almost 20 minutes sectioning my hair, making at least two passes over each hank as I applied the not-very-hot irons to the hair. Results were, at best, okay to get better results, I had to spend longer, sectioning the hair into small sections (who has the patience for that?)

Well, obviously, this didn't inspire me to straighten my hair too often.

Then my niece got this HAI Blue Sapphire Titanium Convertable (WHY "-able" instead of "-ible", I wonder?) from a local hair supplies store in Toronto. And her hair looked gorgeous. So I asked to try it.

WOW! What a difference! In under 10 minutes, my hair was shiny and smooth heck, I'd say it looked good enough for hair modelling! I was hooked. Used it a few more times borrowed from my niece, and then went on the hunt to find it at a good price. Let's just say this straightener costs twice as much in Canada as in the US. So I finally grabbed it off Amazon USA at a great price including international shipping, and waited greedily the 3 or 4 days it took for DHL and Canada Post to get it into my grubby little hands.

I received it on a "curly" day. Tried it out pretty much immediately, and I was freshly impressed. Took less than a minute to get to full heat, and again, less than ten minutes to get my unruly hair bone straight. Then I even put in a few of those glorious loose curls by twisting the iron through the strands like I've watched hair dressers do.

Once again, WOW! What a difference a good straightener makes!

I know I'll be having straight-hair days a lot more frequently, now that it is no longer such a hassle. And the best thing is, as long as I am not washing my hair each day, the effect of the straightening lasts a couple of days! Yay!

I've had this thing just a couple of days, but from my previous experience using my niece's one (the exact same model), I feel confident I've made a good investment that not only saved me money, but will also save me a lot of time on always-busy mornings.

This is a really great flat iron! I have been on the hunt for a quality flat iron that I could also use for curling and that would straighen my long, thick, wavy hair in a reasonable amount of time. I usually hate having to do my hair because it takes do dang long! I have another way more expensive flat iron I bought several years ago that I wasn't that crazy about because it left my hair looking dry and dull after I used it-and you couldn't curl with it as it's squared on the edges. It also took forever to get it really straight, even with it's so called "One Pass" technology. This one is light weight, gets hot enough to straighten even my thick long, super wavy hair in its "natural state" (i.e. air dryed, with tons of wave) in about 25-30 minutes. For me that is huge. With my other flat iron it would take about 45 minutes or sometimes longer! The HAI also leaves my hair looking super shiny after I use it which is a new experience for me, I didn't really believe flat irons would do that, but this one does. I do have to put in on the highest heat setting if my hair is in it's natural state (i.e. not blow dried out with lots of wave), to get it really straight. But if I blow it out semi straight to begin with I can use a lower setting and it takes under 20 minutes. I haven't used it to curl yet, but I like that you can get straight hair that is slightly curled under on the bottom. Looks much more natural. This really is a great flat iron,even for someone with a lot of hair and natural wave. You can get your hair super straight quickly enough to where I actually don't mind doing my hair now. And the price can't be beat. I would definitely recommend this flat iron.
