I love this little flat iron. I've been using it for a couple months now without a problem. It has only an On/Off button...no other settings. It heats in less than a minute to an extremely hot temperature. You have to be careful with this, just like with any other flat iron. It straightens my mildly wavy hair perfectly. If you have long hair or hair with a lot of wave or curl, I would recommend a wider and longer flat iron. This one is 1/2-inch wide and not very long. It's perfect for travel...doesn't take up much space in the suitcase. If you are considering this model, I highly recommend it. I use it mainly to smooth the fly-aways and the grays that have a mind of their own. It makes my hair appear more soft and smooth.

Amika Amitsbk Advanced Titanium Styler, Black

I own both the Amika titanium styler (with the black floating plates), and a Chi of similar shape and design both with 1'' floating plates. This is the second amika I have owned in the last 5 years. I did a side by side test of both straighteners just recently, and there are some important factors I wanted to point out because I have not found a side by side representation of these two straighteners.

Features:

Both are flat irons with solid ceramic tourmaline 1'' floating plates. My straighteners are both black. The Amika has a textured grip handle which helps you keep a grip on it when you're using styling products, as well as a pommel style separation that prevents further slippage with use. The Chi does not. The Chi's plates float closer the edge of the straightener body, allowing for better contact with the roots of hair (important for those of ethnic decent). However the downside of having the plates be so close is that I have found it easier to burn myself and others. In both straighteners that feature is a pro and a con. The Chi's cord comes with a Velcro wrap to neatly stow the straightener and cord when not in use. Both have a temperature dial (although the original Amika did not have this option).

Wear and Tear:

As far as wear and tear are concerned, both have held up exceptionally well over the year that I've owned them. The Chi has a glossy painted black coating, and some of the paint has begun to chip; especially at the edges near the plates. The Amika's logo and other body paint has worn away over time. This may be in part due to styling products used during styling my hair. Both are still in good working order, and have not shown any issues as far as use or anything other than aesthetic wear and tear.

Hair Styling:

The first thing I noticed with the Amika is how much less dry my hair was when compared with other straighteners. This remains true in comparison to the Chi. The Chi (probably to combat frizz) seems to remove more moisture (synthetic and natural) from my hair. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. Hair straightened with the Amika feels a lot smoother and healthier. However, if my hair is not completely dried with a blow dryer it will frizz in high humidity weather (something the Amika is supposed to help you avoid). Hair straightened with the Chi does better on high humidity days without an extra anti-frizz product. But over time the Chi damages my hair by drying it (an effect that the Amika does not have). More moisture appears to be locked into the hair, which in the long run keeps my hair a lot healthier and more manageable. With both straighteners I have experienced pulling or tugging of the hair on occasion. This has not been a serious problem for me with either straightener. Other than this issue which is both a pro and a con for both straighteners, I'd say that neither straightener is better than the other.

The Amika and the Chi are both quality hair straightening irons with quality effects. They both do a similarly good job. Neither one straightens better than the other. The effects last about the same amount of time, and washing of the hair or moisture in excess counteracts the effects as with any straightener. I prefer the Amika simply due to how much less dry my hair feels, but I believe that is down to personal preference. The Chi will be better for some, and the Amika better for others. For those of ethnic decent who have dryer hair, I recommend the Amika. For those of Anglo or Asian descent, or those with finer hair with more of an abundance of natural oils I'd recommend the Chi.

Compared to some of the other high end flat irons out there I really like this one because of the nano technology along with its simple black design, while still sitting at a reasonable price. Sometimes, my hair gets a bit static-y though.

I got compliments on my hair all day long!! My daughter bought me the Amika titanium 1 inch styler. I used it, first iron ever, and I loved it! My usually frizzy hair is smooth, sleek and straight. I'd been battling frizzy hair for years, and no one ever suggested a flat iron. Needless to say, I have a new stylist, and a great flat-iron. I did buy a product to use when your hair is damp, for flat-ironing. I LOVE my new hair style and using the Amika only took maybe 10 minutes. Women that know I've used a flat-iron ask me which one because the results are FABULOUS.

FRAMESI SILIS 1 SCENTED STRAIGHTENING CREAM

I'm a white, 42-year old with thick, course hair. I was trying a new hair dresser and mentioned hating my course wavy hair, wishing it was easier to manage. He recommended Silis 1 by Framesi and said he'd been using it for years with great results. After the treatment, I waited 48 hours to wash my hair. It's SOOOO damaged. Very very dry and rough. I was so hopign to be able to air dry and not worry about my rough edges. Granted, my hair was bleached a while back and I since then went back to my natural color (which had to be colored of course to be dark again). If your hair is untreated, no color, no perms etc., this MIGHT work ok for you. However, if you have chemically treated your hair, I suggest you stay away from this or any other chemical relaxers. Trust me, I've tried a lot of things over time. My hair recovers nicely can really take abuse, so this must be a very very harsh product.

DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT-I had a professional salon in NJ use this product on my hair. They promised me my frizzy hair would be shiny, straight, frizz free and shiny. Instead my hair was burnt and badly damaged. In addition, I had bald patches due to harsh nature of this product. Not sure how other women had great results and it could have been the salon but they claim they used the product hundreds of times. DO NOT TAKE A CHANCE AND END UP MISERABLE LIKE ME.

Conair TC701R You Pro Cordless Thermacell Straightener, 3/4 Inch

I am a little disappointed with the flat iron. It doesn't have a strong grip and it took a long time to heat up...and when it was on for 15 minutes it was not very hot.

Used this on our resent camping adventure. We have a pop up but were limited to power so I figured I would try this. Let me tell you all of us ladies (6 of us) used it and all have varying hair type/length. It's not the best hair straightener out there but come on I was camping 20 something miles from a paved road!! All the girls bought one so they didn't have to keep using mine. Works well when you are limited to stuff and works great for touch ups!

Just For Me Hair Milk Nourishing Detangler, 10-Ounce Bottle

We've been using this on our 5 yr old daughter's hair when she wakes up in the morning to detangle and make brushing easier. At first nobody liked it, even our teenage daughter. But after we discovered that if you give it a moment to dry first that it really works and makes brushing much easier. We have been renovating a house for over a year now and it's almost ready so I spend my time between our current house and the new house. Both are not on city water and have wells. In our current house, the water is tested frequently and treated periodically. When it's treated, it's a bit like taking a shower with swimming pool water.

When I first used this product, I used it at our current house and I found if I used a moisturizing shampoo then it was fine or 3.5 stars because it doesn't detangle as well as I'd like unless I use lots and lots of it and it's a fine line between using just enough and too much where my hair ends up being lank.

I ended up using it at the new house where the water is not treated and found I really, really like this product a lot. It detangled very well and my hair was super soft without being weighed down. I also love the scent of it. To me it has a note of coconut without being overpowering and cloying and 2 spritz to each side and back of my hair was all that was needed.

I would buy this again and also want to try the other products in this line but will save it for when I'm at the new house. I think this detangler is more suited to a bit softer water than we have at our current house.

I'm always hesitant about leave-in conditioners because so many of them weigh my hair down and leave it looking flat. But I'm happy to report that this one works just fine, even on my fine, thick, fly-away hair. As you might imagine, my hair is really tangly after shampooing so using some type of conditioner is a must unless I want to sit there for 20 minutes sorting out tangles. I especially like spray-on type detanglers because I can apply them just where needed. This was the only conditioner I used after washing my hair. It got the tangles out easily, using a conservative amount. After blow drying, my hair looked shiny and behaved well when I curled it with a curling iron. I think it actually helped the curls stay in. The fragrance was nice but it didn't linger after my hair was dry. This is a product I would buy. (I like the packaging design too!)

So I normally don't use detangler on my own hair. However my daughter has very long fine hair which often results in massive tangling.

Having said that, I will try any product I can find that helps with that. This stuff really does the trick, I only need a couple squirts and a hair brush goes right through no problem.

My niece is visiting and her hair is thick like horse hair and it's so unmanageable. We sprayed it with this stuff and it was an instant change and so easy to comb.

I have also found it saves me a headache when I try to brush or my own hair after swimming. For some reason swimming tangles my hair like crazy.

The Violet May company was gracious enough to take back the product and refund my account.
