I used to buy the smaller bottle of this product at my local hair salon; I love it! Using it with the straightner it goes with made my hair so silky smooth.I then bought this one, because I ran out of the other I had purchased at my local hair salon and couldn't make it there to get more.
I'm trying to be open minded; however, something seems different with the formula. Residue covers my straightener (which never happened before); it doesn't smell the same, and it doesn't make my hair silky smooth like the other did.
Supposedly it's the same product. I don't understand why there is a perceived difference.

The product works well and the size is perfect for my hair, the problem with this curling iron is the location of the heat settings dial. It is located in such a spot that I constantly change the heat settings while using it. It's a bit of a hassle.

This is the 3rd curling iron like this that I bought and it hasn't worked. the first worked, the 2nd heats up, but its very difficult to turn on, and this one just didn't heat up at all. I guess I see why they're harder to find.... I recommend Hot Tools. This size curling iron is hard to find and when mine broke, this was the only one in this size i could find. It works good but the on and off buttons and the heat adjustment roller are in bad places, when you curl your hair you bump them and adjust them. I am learning to work around them, but it is kind of annoying.

Royale E038 Classic 1.5 Inch Black Flat Iron
Had a salon purchased flat iron. While shopping at Nordstrom Mall in downtown Chicago, got cornered by a kiosk vendor saying they had the greatest flat iron. took the bait, hook line and sinker, but it seemed to work better than the one I had, so what the heck. Old one went in a drawer for emergency emrgency happened, 5 years later I dropped the Royale one on the granite floor, it broke. Took out old one it was awful, didn't work nearly as well, hated it, but I threw the broken one away so didn't know what kind it was. Called Nordstrom Mall to find out the name of the kiosk that sold flat irons, found out it was Royale. I paid $125 at the mall 5 yeras ago, this one is a little smaller, but works just as great and was half the price here on Amazon. Don't know why it works better, it just does will NEVER buy another brand.

The description says it is 1.5 inch, but the heated part is only 1 inch. I ordered the black one, but the company was out so they upgraded me to the butterfly design at no extra charge. I think the Royale it is as good as the Chi that I replaced with this one. I use it everyday and am on my third flat iron in ten years I think.

First off, before I bought the Sedu I had a Chi. I bought into all of the hype and got one for Christmas. It just stopped working one day out of the blue, and it never did much for my naturally wavy thick long hair. Well, after doing my research, I bought a Sedu. I have never been happier. It cut down my straightening time by more than half! I now straighten my hair in less than twenty minutes. I straighten it in the morning, sleep on it at night, and don't have to restraighten it the next morning. Ever get that annoying "bump" when you're straightening your hair in the back and can't fix it no matter HOW many times you run the straightener over it? This is a lovely to hold, light, and easy to use, flat iron. My hair stays straight and smooth from wash to wash three days. Australian buyers should be aware the plug will need changing but I fully expected this and it was an easy, inexpensive job.

Let me just say that the DVD included with the Remington S-1051 Sleek n Curl Tstudio iron is worth the price of the tool, itself -and this product is fabulous! The DVD presented the kind of information that stylists pick up at the International Hair Shows in Manhattan. The effects are stunning and the instruction is understandable for the novice, but sophisticated enough for the experienced operator.I am a retired New York City salon owner. I can honestly say that if I was still in that line of work and had seen this product demonstrated at one of the hair shows, I would have purchased one for every station in my shop -even at a higher price.
If you are in the market for a new styling tool, this one is highly recommended. And because of its versatility, it also makes a wonderful gift for anyone in your circle!
Yes, there are many other similairly priced flat irons on the market, but none of them are ceramic, and meet the other qualifications I was looking for. This is the only one at this price range that has all of these features.
In order to turn it on, you have to hold down the power button for about 5 seconds like you would with many computers or electronic devices. Pushing it and then waiting 5 seconds will not work as the other reviewer stated that she had tried. Also regarding what the first reviewer said, I kept accidentally adjusting the heat with my hand while it was in use, until I read the instruction manual. It states in there, to lock the keys, you just hold down the button for 2 seconds. You do the same thing to unlock it, so you can turn it off. Problem solved.
As with any flat iron, using it takes some practice. But it gives me amazing results and is every bit as good as the ones I've tried that are over $100.00. I have created so many new hairstyles that I could never have achieved with rollers and curling irons and every other product I use. I love being able to do so many new things with my hair. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Over the last year I have tested out several straighteners. This one rates somewhere in between my favorite (Healthy Infusions by Wahl Pro Straightener, 1 1/4") and my least (Remington S9950 Shine Therapy Straightener, 1").
Pros:
~ Left my hair smooth and straight using the highest setting.
~ Outside where you hold the plates closed stayed cool to the touch.
~ The included DVD is great! Both my daughter and I learned several new ways to use our flat irons.
Cons:
~ To get my hair smooth and straight I had to go over each section 2-3 times.
~ Took too long to heat up.
~ The temperature lock worked, but because of the button placement I did end up turning it off a couple times.
Because of my natural curl, I have found some straighteners work very well and others aren't worth my time. This one did do a good job, but the time it took get that result was far too much. I'd recommend the Remington S-1051 Sleek n Curl Tstudio Collection Titanium Straightner with Tourmaline 1" Slim Plates to someone with a slight wave or curl looking to replace or purchase a new straightener and who might benefit from the informative, easy to follow DVD that it comes with.I got rid of my CHI thinking I should give my hair a vacation from heat, but after deciding I could not live without straightened hair, I wanted to get another iron without spending a lot of money. I decided to buy this one, but it caught a few strands of hair during the first use and it did not get my hair very straight. It just looked like I used the blow dryer to straighten it. Since it made my hair silky I would rate it a 3 star. I ended up taking mine back.I did my homework and read all the reviews before purchasing this product. There were so many positive comments I decided they outweighed the negative, but have since changed my mind.
I bought this iron to replace an older flat iron, so I have at least one other iron to compare. The only positive things I can say are:
Lightweight
Easy to use
Temperature controls were not a problem for me as in other reviews (perhaps the product has been redesigned)
Drawbacks:
My hair caught in the seams of the plates very badly
I needed a much higher temperature (100 degrees more!!) than my old flat iron to get my hair straightened
Left my hair dry and frizzy
It took me much longer to straighten my hair than with my old iron, requiring a dozen or more passes (and I have soft, easy to straighten hair)
Personally, I found the video rather cheesy, but that's just me
Overall I am very disappointed and will be returning this flat iron.
