If I had rated this iron right when I got it, it would have been a 5 star it gets super hot (which I need with curly, thick hair) and gets hot FAST. It's also silky smooth and really glides through your hair love the cord feature which allows for ease-of-movement. The downside is that since I've had it (1-2 months) the purple coating is totally coming off...and I'd suspect in another few months it will be really bad. I'm not sure if this is do to the product that I wear on my hair might be but I can't give it 5 stars when the coating started coming off immediately. Also, the iron doesn't have auto-shut off. Granted, it didn't advertise that it did, but I haven't purchased an iron in the past several years that DIDN'T have this feature so I took for granted that it did. If the coating wasn't coming off and it had auto-shut off, it'd be the best iron ever! That being said, I love the iron so much that I would buy another one when the coating comes off for the money, it's the best iron I've ever had and I've had many!

I've used Hot Tools curling irons in the past and trust the brand. Gets hot very quickly and this size barrel is great for large bouncy curls. I also use it to straighten my hair and give the ends a nice rounded look.

I bought 2 curling irons in the time span of about a little over a year. The ceramic purple coating eventually burns off and fries your hair worse than a regular metal hot tools iron. The coating doesnt last long, if it didn't burn off the coating, this would be a good iron.

I've had many curling irons throughout the years and wanted a curling iron with a bigger barrel since I have hair about 3 inches past my shoulders and didn't want a curly look most of the time. My hair tends to be on the fine side fine hair, lots of it so I try to be careful about what heating tools I will use on it. It is also highlighted so it can get damaged pretty easily. Back to the iron. Apparently I was wrong in thinking that I had owned a 2 inch barrel curling iron before. I must have had 1 1/2 inch irons because when I took this monster out of the box I was surprised to see how truly big this thing is. I'm trying to find something in my office right now to compare it to give you an idea of the circumference. I have a can of Aqua Net (hey, it was on sale at CVS and I needed hairspray to keep at work) under my desk and the cap on it is about the same circumference. The size of this iron makes it a bit cumbersome at times to use. But I think the more I use it, the easier it will be. It has numerous heat settings which is good because as I mentioned I have fine hair and fine hair and heat are not a good mix. It heated up quickly but I did notice the first two times I used it, I turned it off without realizing it trying to maneuver this mammoth iron. I used it on the fine setting, which is the lowest, and kept it in place for about 10 seconds. After a few uses, I will say that I also have an issue with turning it off and sometimes changing the settings without even realizing it. That can be annoying when you are in a hurry and your hair isn't curling anymore because the iron is off and now cool and has to reheat. Back to the curl if you are looking for big, loose curls, I don't think this is the iron for you. I am using it more so to smooth out my hair I do a quick upside down dry for volume and it needs a bit of taming down. If I use a straight iron, I get a really flat look. This smooths my hair and leaves it with volume. I start from the top and work my way down. It curls the ends in a bit but I would not say that my hair looks curled. It takes time to get used to it because of the size. I also wish the cord were just a little bit longer but that is not enough to make me discontinue using it. I won't give it 5 stars because of the awkwardness of it but it is a 2 inch curling iron.

I love this curling iron. It is huge. I have shoulder length thick hair and I use this to add body like a blow out. I tend to start with upper portions of hair and curl down rather than the normal tips and curl up. It seems to provide the body I need while saving the ends from unnecessary damage. This iron comes with an extra spring, but I have not needed it. I purchased this about a month ago and am VERY HAPPY!!! I would recommend this wonder hair tool. Oh and the shipping was speedy!
