I've used various straightening products for over 30 years, from lye based products to Japanese straighteners. I'm not a hairdresser but I have sat through so may professional services that I can repeat the process fairly easily.
This product smells very much like a Japanese straightening product like Bio Ionic's ReTex, but it's quite different in how it works on your hair. After using this solution per the directions, which are well documented here: my hair is smooth, soft, but definitely not straight. I followed the 'wash and wear straight' instructions, but it still only made my hair manageable and less frizzy, not straight. I actually like it better than the pin straight effect of ReTex and similar products.
My hair ranges from kinky, tight curls on the top / back of my head to very loose waves and nearly straight hair at the bangs and by my ears, to wavy/curly everywhere else. After this treatment, my hair is looser curls and barely any frizz when I air dry it. If I blow dry, my hair is soft, shiny, fully of body kind of like magazine hair! It flows, it moves, it bounces, and it stays this way in humid weather.
To maintain this, I need to use sulfate free shampoo and conditioner and use the Simply Smooth Keratin spray in home treatment to extend the treatment.
I've done this twice so far and have used about 1/3 of each bottle. I first did this in early June and then again mid-August. My hair kept its soft and easier to maintain texture throughout a very hot and humid summer.
Overall, this product is great and far less damaging that a Japanese treatment. I go to a salon on Newbury Street in Boston that uses this and my stylist told me that the first time Japanese straightening is done, hair looks great, but multiple sessions damage the hair. I just cant afford to spend $600+ to get this done in the salon, so I get it at the website listed or here on Amazon and the results are the same.
