Healthy Infusions by Wahl Pro Straightener

Healthy Infusions by Wahl Pro Straightener, 2'The feature that drew me to this product is the conditioner strip that applies conditioner to the hair as it goes through the straightener. As it turns out, that is not the best feature.

There is a minimal amount of unscented conditioner (Dimethicone, 2-Ethylhexyl palmitate) released each time the straightener passes through the hair, and it seems imperceptible. I have to take it on faith that it's really there, although when washing my hair the following day, it had a waxy feel to it. It would be hard to determine when the product has been exhausted even with the hint given in the instructions. It comes with only one strip. Replacements are listed at Amazon at three strips for just under $18.00. According to the information on the box, each strip is good for up to 20 uses. That's 60 uses for $18.00 or about $128.00/year (for daily use). It would have to be used in conjunction with a rinse out or leave in conditioner, so it's pretty costly. Once the conditioner is gone, the straightener will still function.

One really nice feature is the LCD that displays the selected temperature of the straightener. There are eight different settings and a handy temperature guide to help determine the correct temperature for several types of hair: fine/thin, normal/wavy, thick/dense/hard-to-straighten, and very coarse/highly resistant. The temperatures range from 200-410 degrees. For my color-treated, fine, wavy hair, 250 degrees did the trick. It is easy to select the temperature. The temperature defaults to 200 degrees when the straightener is turned on again, so you need to remember to set the temperature for each use.

Instructions are complete and even include assembly instructions even though the product comes fully assembled.

The product heats up in only 90 seconds.

There is a removable comb on one side of the flat iron, opposite the conditioning strip. It's a nice-to-have since it untangles and pulls the hair straight as it passes between the blades of the iron. The comb did not seem to pull my hair.

There were no areas on which my hair got caught. This has been a problem in the past with straighteners that had uneven seams or gaps that pulled out several strands at a time.

After use, my hair was straight and shiny, but I had also used two conditioners prior to blow drying my hair.

After 60 minutes, the straightener will turn off whether or not it is in use. (No more of those "did I unplug the straightener" moments as I'm going out the door in the morning. No. The house will not burn down.)

It is not dual voltage and as such is not a good choice for international travel to countries with 220v systems.

I am a flat iron addict. I love my Solia flat irons and am used to what they can do for my hair. This product didn't come close to what my Solia can do, but it did have some neat features and compared to the days when I used to buy Conair or Revlon flat irons at the same price point, this Wahl Pro Straightener is definitely a score ahead.

I don't like gimmicks when it comes to my flat irons, but I did like the attachment on this iron. I didn't notice too much from the conditioning strip, but the comb portion was a neat addition. Normally I run a comb in front of my flat iron as I pull it through my hair to get out any tangles and ensure that the iron is flattening straight hair instead of kinks. Having the attachment comb was neat because I didn't have to run a comb through first.

The digital display is very cool, simple and clear. I wasn't sure when the unit was at full heat however as I didn't notice any change in the display and I usually need the full 400 degree temperature to get my hair straight. I started using it after about a minute of preheating (which I would consider standard with my other irons) but didn't feel it was hot enough. Even after about 3 minutes, it didn't seem quite hot enough but it did get my hair straight (not stick straight shiny but soft and natural looking straight.)

If you're a flat iron addict, this might be a decent back up iron. If you're new to flat irons or only iron occasionally, I would pick up this iron over a Revlon or Conair and it would give you a nice soft natural looking straightening job.

I love this flat iron, my hair is course and kinky and the conditioning strips are a must! However, the local stores stopped carrying the conditioning strip refills and have yet to find a source on the internet. Arggh!!!!

I initially purchased this iron because it had big ceramic plates and didn't know much about flat ironing my hair. Since then I've been through several flat irons, including the $190 CHI Nano, have even had several keratin treatments done. When used correctly (those are the KEY words) this flat iron by far surpasses the others... It really is a fantastic iron and the strips work wonders--notice a HUGE difference without them.

I've had this about one year or more I didn't use the Healthy Infusions by Walh Pro Straightner for about 6 months since I never bothered to flatten my hair after I washed it. But then, I made a new year's resolution to try a little harder and look nicer and so I pulled the flattener out of the box and fired it up [ie, plugged it into the wall and tried it].

So now I've been using this product for about 6 months and well, I really like it! It's just simple to use, you don't even need to really read instructions...ok, I did for the part on how to lock the heat setting [set your temperature, and then press and hold the button to lock it so you don't accidently press it off or change settings while doing your hair]. Otherwise, really simple to use, just plug it in, undo the cord-prong lock so the flattener opens up and starts safely heating up on the table while you prep your hair with gel or whatever. Then when it's ready, you just take some hair [not too much or too little] and then put it inside the Healthy Infusions flattener and slowly slide it along from the top to the end, don't go too fast, it works better if you heat up sections of your hair for a second or two. Or you can redo the same parts to make sure it's more flat.

It's not dangerous to leave the flattener on, or even if you accidently touch the flattener while it's heating up, it's still pretty safe to handle even on the hottest 410F setting. However, if your ironing your hair, and you accidently touch your head, it will sting a bit but overall pretty safe I think for teenagers and such once you teach them the proper functions.

There is a bit of weight to the flattener, not too light or too heavy but if you have alot of hair, it will take awhile and alot of arm strength [ahah]! I have hair a bit longer than shoulder length and it takes about 15 minutes out of the shower to flatten after I've lightly dried my hair. Definitely does take the frizz out, and leaves your hair feeling nice and soft, not burnt or dry. I do like the function of the clip-on brush, although it only seems to work for the right-handed person? I would like it to be able to change sides or flip it on the flattener, otherwise the buttons are pretty easy to understand, and functional for left or right-handed people.

I like that there's a blue LED display, easy to read and buttons are small but easy to press and there's a safety lock for the settings and at the end of the flattener so that it locks together and isn't open when you put it away in the drawer when not in use. You can curl the long cord around the flattener too. The whole thing is quite durable material and just simple to use and setup. Who knew all those years why I never bothered to flatten my hair? I always thought it was so hard!

So overall, a very useful product! HIGHLY RECOMMEND for the person who just sometimes wants to iron their hair, sometimes change up their hairstyle easy to use!
