Karmin G3 Professional Flat Iron - NEW 2012 Model - Pink

Karmin G3 Professional Flat Iron - NEW 2012 Model - PinkI heard very good things about this flatiron, but only from people online, so I was a little nervous because this was such a big purchase for me. It performs the way I expected, which is good, and does not leave my hair with the burning smell since it is ceramic. My last flatiron was not ceramic. Overall I say this is a good flatiron, and I would recommend, but I've not tried any medium priced ceramic flatirons, so I can't really compare to others that may be a little cheaper.

This is an amazing flat iron I just love it and my friends have now each bought one after they tried mine. Highly recommended to anyone who wants professional results. I have very thick hair and this iron heats up to 460F and straightened my hair with just one pass. Love it, love it!

After reading reviews for this flat iron on Amazon and other websites, I was sold. I couldn't wait to get this iron and try it out. When I received my package, I was impressed with the packaging by the manufacturer. I was equally excited that it came with heatmat and a travel bag. Unfortunately that would turn out to be the best part of this product. The iron was great the first month that I had it. I loved that it was lightweight. I was really excited that I could style my bangs without burning my forehead. After a month of using this iron, I started to notice that the entire want would get very hot, almost too hot to even hold to style my hair. I thought maybe it gets hot because I have it on a high temp setting, so I reduced it to the lowest heat setting the next day. It was still very hot and I was unable to hold it with bare hands, so I wrapped a washcloth around the iron so I could use it. I am so put off by this product that I would not recommend it to anyone.

I thought to myself that maybe I had a defective iron, but when I looked at some of the other reviews (ones that I must have missed initially), there were others that had the same issue with the iron getting to hot.

I had a 2 in CHI turbo flat iron and that lasted me 7 years and will be returning to a CHI as this Karmin flat iron is a waste of money.

Kudos to Amazon as they provided the best customer service with this! Thank you Amazon. :)

Conair Tc701 Pro Cordless Straightener - Home Appliances and Accessories / Home and Health Accessor

Conair Tc701 Pro Cordless Straightener - Home Appliances and Accessories / Home and Health AccessoriesGirls this is perfect for the car, yes car, if you have bangs that curl on the way to work and you want them straight again this is for YOU. (I Don't recommend driving and straighening EVER, it would be like texting & driving DONT DO IT) I keep it in my car at all times for last minute touch-ups on the go. I have also used it to flatten out the frizzies...I have long hair and it works perfect at home I have a CHI this product heats up nicely. I did have to buy this on-line and the additonal butane refills as well, as I cant find them in retail stores but they last a long time. I recommend this product and the seller.

So handy to use, no looking for outlets. I took mine on vacation, we left early and I didn't want to take time to do my hair...so I wetted my hair, let it air dry, use my cordless straightener and was ready when we stopped for breakfast...a lifesaver for me.

Every year i camp outdoors at several Summer music festivals. I bought this straightner to try to keep my hair somewhat maintained while camping and all i can say is that it heats up fairly quickly however, it snags every little hair on my head and actually rips out several pieces of hair as i straighten. I would not buy this same product again. There has to be something wrong with the ceramic plates. They need to be made out of a smoother ceramic so that it doesn't constantly snag. The only good thing is that it does not require batteries and it barely uses any fuel so you do not need to replace the butane all too often.

It was certainly better than nothing but it did not really heat up to a temperature that did much good.I would recommend it for thinner hair rather than coarse texture and it was much better at straightening bangs tha n anything else

Straight To The Maxx Hair Straightening System

Straight To The Maxx Hair Straightening SystemWas very excited to try, but VERY disappointed with the results. My average curly hair is now extremely dry and smelly and still curly! I was very careful to follow all directions but would highly recommend going to the professionals, as this product does NOT work! Save your money, time, and hair!

I have fought with natural curly/frizzy hair all my life. I have tried everything in the world to either get my hair to curl or be straight and noithing as worked until now. It was a little frizzy at first but after adding a bit of styling oil to it, it is smooth and straight and healthy looking now, and takes only five minutes to style.

I love this product. I have been using it for months. Meaning I bought the kit and have used the refills twice. Althought it takes a little bit of time to apply the straightening product. Once I washed it out, my hair was very soft. I have very thick and wavy hair.

This cuts my styling time more than in half. It keeps your hair straight even if you sweat, or are in a humid environment. I did find however, that you do need to use the flat iron after every wash, to get the super straight look. But this may just be because of my thick hair.

All in All, I love this stuff!! I hope it is always available.

Straight to the maxx?, more like STRAIGHT TO THE TRASH! I've been chemically relaxing my hair for 16 years and have never come across a product that is so deceiving. Their infomercials, which should have given me a hint, made the product seem like the expensive Japanese product that can only be perfomed at salons. This product doesn't even come close to it, AND they have the nerve to stick on a price tag that has guts to a product that lacks nuts!!! My hair still came out curly and was dried out even worse than I could imagine. NEVER USE THIS PRODUCT! MY HAIR HAD TO BE CUT OFF!!!

Infiniti by Conair 223XR, 1875 Watt Tourmaline Ceramic 2-in-1 Styler, Cord Reel Dryer

Infiniti by Conair 223XR, 1875 Watt Tourmaline Ceramic 2-in-1 Styler, Cord Reel DryerI've owned this dryer for only a few weeks, so I cannot speak to its longevity. This is my third hair dryer with a cord reel, which I find convenient. The first one was OK and worked well, but was noisy. My second one (Conair 1875 Watt Ionic Cord Keeper Hair Dryer), which I used for only a couple months, was also noisy. The cord in it was also too short (4 feet) and when retracting it, rewound so quickly that the plug would whip around and hit me painfully in the hand. I had to be careful about how to hold it when retracting the cord. It also had only fast/hot and slow/warm settings. I got fed up with it, so I looked for new options at a local Target.

I found this dryer and was hesitant to pay twice as much for it as I did the previous ones. I couldn't imagine what could be special enough about it to justify two and a half times the cost.

When I tried it, I was quite surprised. The first thing I noticed is that it is heavier and feels very solid and well built. I don't care about the weight--it takes me only a minute or two to dry my medium-length (for a man) hair. The next surprise was that it is extremely quiet--even at high speed. I no longer have to turn up my radio to hear the news while drying my hair. It has independent controls for heat and speed. I usually like to use high heat with the low speed so it doesn't blow my hair so much. The 5-foot cord retracts slowly and safely and is just the perfect length for my situation.

I would not describe the quietness of the dryer as slightly better than the cheaper driers I have used before--it is a dramatic difference. I have often wondered about the potential hearing loss my old dryers might cause, but didn't worry too much because it didn't take very long to dry my hair. If I still had long hair, I would be seriously concerned about the noise from a cheap dryer.

As for how well my hair looks after using it, I notice no difference from the other dryers. My hair if very fine and thick with some wave, so it is pretty easy to care for. It will frizz in high humidity, but I live in Denver and humidity is not a problem here. I have not tried this in a humid environment.

I highly recommend this dryer.

Update on 2010-10-17: This dryer is still working great and I still consider it the best dryer I've ever used.

Update on 2011-12-29: I cut my hair shorter last April and no longer use the hair dryer. It was still working perfectly after three years.

So this is a Tourmaline Ionic Ceramic Dryer. What's in it for Me?

(For model specific info, skip down to the *******)

Ionic. Ceramic. Tourmaline. If you've shopped for a hair dryer or flipped through a beauty magazine in the past few years you've likely seen these buzz words. Yet what do they mean to you, the consumer?

"Ceramic" The coil (the component of the hairdryer that heats the air to dry the hair) is made of ceramic which heats more evenly than a metal coil purported to cause less damage to hair.

"Ionic" Very simply, "ions" are atoms or molecules with a positive or negative charge because the atom has gained or lost an electron. Great! but what does that have to do with hairdryers? According to hair dryer manufacturers, "instead of taking the air from the room and heating it, an ionic hair dryer uses negative ions to shrink the water droplets in hair . . . [helping] dry hair faster and with less damage, making it smooth and shiny." However, an environmental engineer can tell you there is no strong science to back up this claim. If you're unsure then just realize that all hairdryers still have coils which heat the air to dry the hair. (see above)

"Tourmaline" a type of gemstone touted by hair dryer manufacturers to produce more ions and therefore dry hair even faster with less damage. (see above) This claim also unproven by hard science.

Yet despite the lack of science to back the claim that Ceramic and or Tourmaline Ionic hair dryers "help smooth the cuticle layer creating silky, shiny hair [with] less frizz and more manageability" users continue to report the hairdryers do just that. Even consumer tests report this technology dries hair up to 70% faster.

Is there a placebo effect?

At this point in the game it no longer matters. Because the overwhelming majority of the dryers on the market today are either ionic, ceramic, or both and you can now purchase models with these features without any additional cost over models without these features it is no longer necessary to agonize whether or not it's "worth it" to plunk down $300 just to see for yourself. What you should do instead is evaluate the hair dryers other features.

*****************************************

And on those "other" features I can heartily recommend this hairdryer.

(in order from most important feature to least)

*The three heat settings and two speed settings are separate buttons, plus one of those "cool shot" buttons that were all the buzz a few years back. This is a very important and often missing feature for hairdryers, especially for dryers in the lower price range. If you don't have the speed and heat settings on separate buttons then you only have two options "high speed with hot heat" or "low speed with low heat." Despite the new technology, it's always been recommended not to simultaneously use the highest heat stetting at the same time you use the highest speed setting because the potential to damage the hair shaft is higher. That leaves you with "low speed with low heat" which takes *forever* to dry your hair. With the speed and heat settings on separate buttons you have the option to dry your hair on high speed but with lower heat or high heat but lower speed which are the best options to dry your hair quickly and safely. The third button, the "cool shot," is used at the end of drying to cool the hair quickly to help it "set."

*Retractable chord anything that helps keep your home less cluttered is a bonus. Wrapping the cord around the body of the dryer is damaging so the retractable chord feature is a wonderful bonus.

*You also get concentrator and a diffuser attachments which come on many but not all dryers.

-The diffuser is for curly or other styles that can get blown out with the direct application of a jet of air. Also great for heat setting rollers that would get frizzy with direct air.

-The concentrator (that small attachment you normally throw away) serves the opposite purpose and is excellent for straightening and styling hair or training bangs.

*Removable filter a common feature that helps to keep lint and hair out of the moving parts. Can be removed for periodic rinsing to maintain dryer performance.

I regularly have to dry my daughters hair (she's 10). Being a ham-fisted male, I have a hard time working with some of the arcane tools I've been provided (a hair iron?). I just finished using this dryer on her hair and it works great, even for me.

The device is designed very well. The retractable cord makes the dryer easy to store and retrieve. The settings are very simple to use and with only a few available, I'm not spending all kinds of time figuring out which ones to take advantage of. The high heat setting was not at all uncomfortable for me or my daughter, but with the trigger to switch on cool air, if my hands or her head got hot, we had quick relief if needed. It dried her hair very fast, but I could tell that it wasn't damaging the hair as it did it. The attachment that dries and untangles proved to big for my daughters shorter hair, but she may grow into it. I used the the funnel attachment quite a lot because it made controlling the flow & direction of the air much easier. I found the noise level to be really low compared with hair dryers I've used in the past.

We were both very happy with the experience. Best of all for my daughter, the dryer is pink, which won her over pretty quickly. It really seems like a sophisticated hair dryer and I anticipate quite a lot of use.

Comes with 2 attachments for air distribution control Diffuser and Concentrator

Spec: 1875 watts

110-125 volts AC at 60hz

Pros:

-Ionic technology produces negative ions to neutralize the generally positive charges on the hair which helps to eliminate static

-As an electrical engineer, one of the first things I noticed is the presence of great safety device at the end of the cord. The ALCI or Appliance Leakage Circuit Interrupter, much like a GFCI or ground fault current interrupter. If the device sense a short circuit which is similar to what happens when the dryer falls in the tub, the electrical current will automatically get disconnected which can be a lifesaving factor. GFCI is now mandatory for all new bathroom constructions, but if you travel or happens to be in an old house that is not equipped with a GFCI, then it is good to know that it is a built-in device in your dryer.

-Retractable cord

-Some dryers only have a 4 ft cord. The additional foot is a big advantage.

-3 heat settings

-2 speed settings

Cons:

-A bit bulky & heavy

Noise data included good job overall

Here are some points not discussed elsewhere. The Infinity is a medium weight hairdryer heft wise. The plastic construction is tight so it feels solid in your hands. It does a good enough a job drying hair (not significantly faster or slower than any other 1875 watt dryer). I like the removable filter which is mounted fairly flush with the back of the housing. I had others where the filter screen was the back of the housing, if you laid it down the wrong way the screen mounting tabs broke off too easily. Here is a tip for cleaning the plastic windowscreen like filter underneath; I used to clean it with tweezers to pull off the accumulated lint about once a month. I now use a Q-tip, simply touch the tip against the lint, twirl, and the lint gets tangled in the Q-tip and comes right off.

In use the dryer is pretty well balanced, and what surprised me, fairly quiet as well. It is not advertised as a particularly quiet model, which is important to me, but it is. I found that dryers with large diameter air inlets and outlets are usually quieter. Larger fan diameter equals slower and less noisy fan. This one was noticeably quieter than some other ones I have used, and the noise is slightly lower pitch and not as shrill. I decided to do a noise comparison of all the dryers we had in the house and sure enough, per minute of drying time, the Infinity was the second quietest. What was more surprising is how noisy these things are, not just objectively but subjectively as well. 86 dBA is LOUD. I tested all of them with a noise level meter held 12" away at a right angle to the discharge of air. Here are the results:

Revlon Quiet Ceramic 1875 High=80 dBA Low=71 dBA

Conair Infinity 1875 High=83 dBA Low=79 dBA

Remington All That 1875 High=86 dBA Low=76 dBA (very shrill)

Windmere MTD1CP ~1200 High=82 dBA Low=71 dBA (travel dryer, v. slow)

So, other than my specifically quiet Revlon, and the flea size Windmere, the Infinity was very quiet. A good value, and a pleasure to use. PS. I do not recommend that you use the self retracting cord feature without holding the cord with the other hand. It does snap back, and it just feels like a gimmick feature that will break if you use it too often.

Hot Tools White Curly Q Tapered Iron

HOT TOOLS HTBW1851 Medium Tapered Curling Iron, Black/White, 1/2 to 1 InchI've been trying to decide if and what curling iron product to buy. I had heard good things about curling "wands" in general, i.e. the curling iron without the clip. I looked and heard great things about the CHI products, and I have one of their straightening irons. However, they are not budget-friendly, so I decided to give this one a try. I had heard good things about hot tools because of the temperature control. I LOVE this feature. It allows you to control the heat and helps keep you from getting burned. This curling wand, unlike some others, has a cool tip. This really prevents burning. I haven't burned myself yet, and I haven't used the glove. The tapered end gives versatility because you can create tighter curls or looser waves. It is definitely a looser look than a traditional curling iron. It creates waves more so than ringlets. If you are going for true ringlet curls, I would not suggest this product. It DOES give you a look that you see a lot of celebrities with--loose waves, great for layered hair.

BEST part--it's easy! I had heard there was a big learning curve with curling wands, but my first time using it was so easy! I am a low-maintenance hair person, so I've been looking for something that is faster and easier. It is very easy to use and to learn how to use, which I found surprising because it usually takes me longer. For example,I've been trying to curl my hair with the CHI straightener as many people do, but I have not been able to get it with practice. This curling iron gives a more similar look to what people achieve with a straightener who use it as a curling tool.

Glad I followed the other reviews and hope you do the same!

I would highly recommend this product if you are looking for something reasonably priced with great results. I have long hair that typically is very time consuming to style. This curling iron gets up to 400 degrees and I can have soft big waves in about 10 min or tight curls in about 25. Because there is no clampit doesn't fry the ends of my hair.

I recently got curlers and after several weeks, finally the curls started looking better as I got the hang of it. I used this taper curling iron for the first time today and my hair turned out great. The curls are pretty defined even after holding sections for about 20 seconds, but after wearing my hair in a bun for a 25 minute walk to work, the curls had loosened slightly, but now 8 hours later, they've held great and my hair feels really good. I washed my hair 2 days ago but even without freshly washed hair, it looks really nice. I did put on the glove after burning my hand a little, but it's easy to hold with the glove on. I debated between getting this size and the 1 in and i think this one was the right call as the curls are pretty defined so I wouldn't want them any smaller/tighter. Overall, very good purchase, impressed at how easy it is to use and that you don't need to hold your hair in very long to have the curls stay in.

(This review is based on 1st straightening my hair and then curling it) I was a little apprehensive to try this product because sometimes I find it hard for my hair to hold a curl with other tools. I'd given up on curling irons and had started using my flatiron to get curls. Not anymore! From the first time I tried it (even though it took some getting used to with the glove and all) I've had wonderful results. I'm Puerto Rican. I've got a lot of hair and it's naturally very curly, thick and somewhat coarse. Other curling irons would give me a spiral and then go limp in 30 mins. This wand makes my hair really shiny and the curls stay well into the next day. I might spray a little hairspray or gloss when I'm done, but other than that I don't use any products with it. Doesn't seem that I need to.

I have been using curling irons for years but usually the curl only last a few hours if that. My hair is naturally straight. With this iron the curl lasts until the next day, through wind, and even sleeping on it. My hair feels soft and has body the really lasts. Ordered another one as a back up, would be heart broken if this iron wasn't available.

Mega Hot Hair Dryer

Mega Hot Hair DryerAfter a few months of use, the direct flow end no longer stays on the dryer. It just falls off during blow drying which is very frustrating! The diffuser end is never used and it still fits tightly, so the direct flow end is defective. Went back to Sally's where I bought it and they were no help....30 day warranty and that's it. Called the manufacturer and the customer no-service person said the dryer was not defective! I told her I can't use the dryer without the end, but she continued to claim it was not defective because the dryer still worked! This dryer is junk and no one stands behind it. Don't waste your money. I've had Revlon and Conair dryers last for years and they cost alot less.

when I used it for the first time the handle got really burning hot, I continued using it because it`s extreme heat let me get my hair done quickly. After a couple uses I smelled something burning, smoke came out of it then it shut down completely, I was scared to death (do not want to die with electric shot).

Buy Mega Hot Hair Dryer Now

Let me mention, I did not purchase this item from Amazon, I purchased it from Sally Beauty Supply. However, it is the same exact model.

For the first week after I bought this item, I absolutely loved it. But a few days after that, I realized the dryer had a slight burning smell to it and the handle would get extremely hot during use. I thought it was annoying, but not unbearable, until a week after that, it got so hot my fingers literally couldn't take it and I turned it off. The scariest part is, when I turned it off, the dryer literally SPARKED!

I haven't even had this thing a month, this is absolutely ridiculous. I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.

This "product" only gets one star because I'm forced to give it one. I'd rather give it negative 73.

I hate using this hair dryer. The buttons go too low down the handle which causes me to accidentally change the settings to warm and cool during use. It takes forever to dry my hair because I'm constantly having to change the settings back. It dries my hair just fine when I'm able to keep the setting on hot. I have small hands and short fingers, so I can't imagine how much worse it would be for someone with larger hands. The only thing I like about this dryer is its light weight.

Conair Cordless Ceramic 1" Straightener TC607BC

Conair Cordless Ceramic 1' Straightener TC607BCI bought this item a month ago and I've used it at least twice a week when I'm out and the weather doesn't agree with me (I have very freezy hair). This product takes 1 min to warm up (2 mins if you want it piping hot) and straightens up each chunck of hair in one stroke. The only thing I'm skeptical about is how long the special Conair battery will last and how much the replacement will cost...I'll worry about that when the time comes :p

Pros:

Warms up quickly

Does the job

Adds some sort of glossy look to the hair

Cons:

Uses a patented Conair battery instead of more common AA or AAA.

You have to wait a few minutes after you're done before putting the piece back in it's compact casing (for peace of mind...not likely to set your purse on fire though)

I purchased this mini straightener for a trip that I'm going on in about a week and I must say that it works pretty well for straightening my bangs which is all I really wanted it for in the first place. If you want to use this for straightening a lot of long hair this is a bad product for you.

I bought this cordless flat iron after being without power for 5 days after Hurricane Irene. I wasn't expecting much, but I use a plug in Conair flat iron at home, so I thought I would give this Cordless Conair a try. Turns out it is great ! I bring it to work almost daily, and especially on those "humid" days and I just love it! It's lightweight, small, and heats up very quickly. It actually works much better than I was expecting. Granted, it doesn't close as tightly as my plug in one at home, but it does get the job done.

Totally recommend it.

I bought this straightener for an overseas trip (to a country where electricity is unreliable). In theory, it is a great concept: no electricity needed & completely portable, with it's own traveling case. In reality, it DOESN'T WORK. First, when you turn it on it smells very strongly of butane. Not really appealing and it makes me nervously wonder how much excessive gas is leaking out. I could get past that if the straightener heated up at all. It doesn't! I have really fine, thin hair so it takes very little to straighten it, but this thing can't even do that!! If you have thicker or curly hair, I'd imagine it does even less. The straightener produces a luke warm straightening plate. Even when I leave it clamped to my hair for a longer time, little happens. It's completely ineffective. I was going to take it on my trip (since you're allowed one cordless curling iron/straightener and one cartridge in your checked luggage), but it's completely pointless. It doesn't work! It's far less quality than I'd expect from Conair. Don't waste your money!!

ApHogee Deep Moisture Shampoo Hair Shampoos

APHOGEE Deep Moisture Shampoo Enlivens Dry & Dull Hair 16oz/473mlI have been using this product for a few years now and let me just say this is my favorite shampoo. The Aphogee Deep Moisture Shampoo replaced my Biolage Hydratherapie Shampoo. This shampoo ranks number 1 on my list, number 2 being Cream of Nature Ultra Moisturizing Shampoo (only because it comes in a bigger bottle which is better for dorm life). It feels like I'm washing my hair with conditioner. It also has a pleasant smell to it. My only issue is that it doesn't come in a big 20oz.

This reason why I picked this shampoo over the one for Damaged Hair(also by Aphogee) is due to the lack of protein. You have to by careful of having protein overload in your hair regimen. BTW I'm a black woman with coarse relaxed hair.

I love this shampoo! My hair feels so clean afterward, but during the process, it's fun because it feels so luxurious and it smells really great. Ive had bad experiences with shampoo drying out my hair, even natural shampoos like Komazaa care's, but I cant wait to use this shampoo whenever its time to wash my hair, and Im pretty sure Im going to be using this one from now on. It really does seem to enliven my dry, dull hair, and I think this is good for people with treated or natural hair; I myself have unpermed or relaxed hair, I just wash and flat iron, but for permed hair I think it would be good for its moisturizing affects. Definitely recommend!

Buy ApHogee Deep Moisture Shampoo Hair Shampoos Now

I'm not totally picky about what kind of shampoo I use, so my review might not be as thorough. I just want a nice shampoo that builds up a good lather, cleans my hair, and leaves it feeling normal afterwards.

This shampoo does all three. Not perfect it could lather a bit better (maybe this is part of the deep moisture formula?). It cleans my hair great. I can't really say it leaves my hair normal afterwards, it feels easier to comb through, but to me that's a positive so I like it.

The only downside is that there are probably better bargains out there, even in terms of salon grade shampoo. Also, I'd rather buy shampoo twice a year and not once a month, they should make a bigger bottle of this stuff.

This shampoo smells wonderful! I have hair that easily gets either too greasy or too dry. This shampoo does neither to my hair and keeps it soft and smelling good. I love this shampoo and recommend it to anyone.

This shampoo left my hair dry, brittle and full of tangles. The dryness even appeared while I was shampooing my hair. Using the conditioner did not help much. I have never had so much hair come out of my head after shampooing and conditioning. I seriously question all the raving reviews, the reason I bought it in the first place.
