I bought this at a local salon when my old iron of four years died. My old iron had been one of the fat, bulky hairstraighteners that preceded ones like these, so obviously I was a little suspicious of the ultra simple, slim design of this straightener. I bought it through a good friend for about 60 bucks taxes in, and it was well worth that money and more. I don't know if avanti is a big brand certainly not as big as CHI but they sure deserve to be! This iron worked wonders, and still does, for my hair, turnign my naturally coarse and curly hair soft and sleek in minutes, and never making my hair feel frizy or dry! As long as I use a decent hair protectant on my hair before use (I currently use got2b guardian angel cheap and VERY effective!) my hair is soft and shiny and whip straight all day.
The only drawback is that it has surround heat, and therefore, in theory you can supposedly use it to curl your hair as well, but the straightner seems to be to flat and square, and everytime I try to use it to curl my hair, it makes square ringlet things. Though that could just be me using it wrong, who knows.
