This Remington is the standard professional shape (not collapsible), with the standard heat options (cool, warm, hot; plus a button for a burst of cold), airflow options (medium and high; the enclosed concentrator and diffuser can be attached to further customize the airflow), and 1875 watts.
But that's the end of "standard." This model is slightly heavier than my other dryers, the weight being a sturdier motor that's warranted for 4 years. The motor makes it the first dryer with enough oomph that I can hold it the recommended 8-inches away from my head and still get great heat and airflow to my hair. (And it's the first time the tips of my thumb and index finger are healing; they were constantly dry and cracked from needing to hold my old blow-dryers too close to my hand that holds the styling brush.) It has a fabulous surface -a sort of velvety-smooth composite that creates just the slightest bit of drag so the dryer doesn't slide around or off a countertop. And the best? It's the quietest blow-dryer I've heard, made even better by a pitch that's low and whooshy, not high and whiney. Oh-so-highly recommended! This is a good dryer while it lasts. Quiet, good heat, not too heavy. But I have owned it less than six months and yesterday it stopped producing heat, just blew cold air.
Update: I just called Remington. They warranty the product for three years and are sending me a new dryer. No hassle.

From its curvy shape to its pink switches to its matching companion products (a curling wand and a straightener), this dryer is clearly designed for a woman. My wife is a small woman, however, so it's just too large and heavy for her to handle comfortably. Moreover, she has fine hair, yet this monster has a motor with a whopping 1875 watts, the "maximum allowable power," according to the copy on the box. Its diffuser attachment also seems to be designed for someone with big hair.As for the other claims on the box, I'm very skeptical. It promises a salon experience with its "pearl ceramic grill with real crushed pearls for faster airflow." But airflow is primarily a function of the motor and the nozzle, not the grill. The box also extols its "internal electronic ion generator for maximum therapeutic benefit." Sorry. We haven't noticed any therapeutic benefits in the process of using it. The product does a fine job of drying hair, but these two claims strike me as a lot of Madison Avenue hoo-hah!
On the plus side, it's remarkably quiet for such a powerful machine, and it comes with a long cord, a non-slip grip, a removable air intake screen for ease of cleaning, and three heat and two speed settings for a total of six combinations. It's a sturdy dryer that should last for many years. If I needed to dry a lot of thick hair fast, this would be my tool of choice.

This hairdryer is more compact then the other one I own and has a lot of options. It is easy to hold in the hand, though I am not sure why hairdryers have the outside shell they do. I stored my old one under my sink and the shell became sticky to the point I didn't want to use it. This one seems to have a skin of the same material on the outside. I will store this in my closet and not in the bathroom where there is too much heat. I like the fact it is smaller than other hairdryers I have owned, that it comes with several settings like cold and hot air at different speeds and has a cleanable filter, such little extras do add up. Plus it is a really attractive hairdryer, with its pink metal and almost black-burgundy skin. The plug has a reset on it too, which is nice. Some hairdryers I've had have not had this option. It dries my overly thick curly hair very well. It has an attachment for drying curly hair and also a more typical one for when I want to dry it straighter in order to use my flat iron on my hair once it is dry. I have very long hair, so this does the trick and this hair dryer is pretty light and easy to use, much more than my previous Conair one. It is more quiet too. It's less hassle drying my hair with this than with other dryers I have owned. The reason this gets a four star rating rather than a five is the shell, which I have to store in my closet or else the heat will make it sticky in a few years and the fact it took me some time to get used to the pearl particles when the dryer is on since it smells a bit odd, like burning rock. The most interesting thing about this dryer was reading the warnings in the box. One of the warnings says, "Do Not Use While Sleeping", which I still have to figure out. Is that even possible? Sleep hair drying? One has to wonder what happened in order for the company to put that on their warning list. It is a nice hairdryer for the money, just don't use it after you go to bed and start sleeping.

What a great dryer! The color is very rich and attractive and the brushed plastic material feels soft to the touch. The detail of this blower is remarkable, it even has a small rubber pink bumper preventing scratches on the counter or on the blower and keeps it from sliding on the counter a nice bonus!
The cord is `just enough' longer than my previous hairdryer that makes it much more convenient to use. The weight of the dryer feels well-balanced in the hand. The control buttons are easy to reach and handle and the unit moves smoothly between settings (yes, one handed use even). The attachments are easy to place on and remove from the dryer.
These are all great features, but the most important part is how it actually dries hair. I have very fine hair and feel that it is much softer and more manageable than with my old dryer. I even borrowed my husbands head to see how the diffuser worked. I did have to put the fan setting on high in order to feel I was getting decent air through the attachment, but overall his hair had more volume, and he did not complain of hot air burn.
The dryer also comes with a generous 4-year warranty, which is great to see the manufacturer stand behind their products. I'm putting the matching curling wand on my Christmas wish list!
Oh, and I was pleased that the packaging of the unit was easily recyclable as the plastic `window' inserts easily removed from the cardboard a nice plus for anyone who cares not just about the item they buy but also if the packaging is responsible!
